“NO” is a complete sentence.

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

On my dining room table is a postcard I made from a photograph of the sun over Gordon Pond in the North Shores of Rehoboth Beach.  Superimposed over the scene are the words,  ” ‘No’ is a complete sentence.”  When I worked with young people, that thought was one of the most important messages I taught.  I recently had the opportunity to practice what I preached.

Someone I love asked me for a large sum of money. It took me three days to reach the decision to say no, and less than one minute to speak it to the person who awaited my response.  This was challenging for me– one of those times when I had no idea what the reaction might be or the outcome of what might follow. Initially I focused on how much I wanted to “help,” how I sometimes need to be needed, on how much of a difference my response could make in this dear person’s life.  Part of me wanted to say yes.  Part of me wanted to say no.  I was conflicted–big time.

Then I began asking myself important questions– questions I might ask a client. Questions such as, What would Jesus/the Buddha/Mother Theresa do?  Which conflicted part of me feels stronger?  What am I pretending not to see? and then, most important: If I say yes how will I feel afterwards?  If I say no, how will I feel afterwards?  Then I encouraged my conscious mind to stop participating in the wrestling match, connect with spirit, and KNOW that the answer would come.  For three days, I listened and practiced patience (with varying success).  When I awakened the third morning the answer was there.

I know the power of words.  Sometimes saying, “yes,” actually stops the creative process.   The power of “NO” honors another person’s presence, independence and ability. Speaking the word, “no” sometimes takes courage. When spoken with love,”NO,” can be empowering –for all.

Dwell in Possibility

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

When you know that you are limitless you both internalize and project that knowlege.  You think it so.  Repatterning your thoughts, your neural network, allows you to dwell in possibilty and BE THERE NOW!  Neuro-linguistic programming is a very effective way to let this happen.  Consider setting up a few sessions with Adair for repatterning your limiting thoughts.  The time is now!

Setting your goal and making it reality

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

If you are ready to move beyond the lyrics, “Fairy tales can come true…it can happen to you…” and take action– creating a well formed outcome may be just right for you.  This is a simple, workable process to set your goal and see it through: to make it reality. Working with a coach to determine each of these steps may be useful as you make it happen!

1.  State what you want to do. (as opposed to what you don’t want)

2.   Ensure that you can accomplish this independently.

3.   Identify the stumbling blocks that are in your way. Walk around them, jump over them, or turn them into stepping stones.

4.   Determine  when, where, and how you will accomplish your goal.

5.  Visualize what it will look like, sound like, and feel like when you have accomplished your goal.

6.  Take an “ecology check” by asking how your achieving what you want might impact others.  And determine whether or not that matters.

7. Follow through on step 4.

Eternity is NOW

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

Take a moment–it is Yours NOW.  Breathe.  Hold that breath for just a moment and gently let it go.  Allow your attention to follow your outbreath and just notice the aliveness at this very moment. Know that eternity is present just now and therefore always.  Feel your toes, wiggle them, smile, and sense the grounding as you place your feet in a comfortable position on the floor.  Follow your out breath as your smile reaches out and draws the present moment into your core.  Tilt your head to the left…slowly and gently breathing in.  Return your head to a forward position as you exhale and focus on your gentle outbreath again. Tilt your head to the right…slowly and gently breathing in.  Return your head to a forward position as you exhale and focus on your gentle outbreath again.  Now, allow your head to stay upright, turing to the left as if looking over your left shoulder…slowly and gently breathing in.  Return your head to a forward position as you exhale and focus on your gentle outbreath again. And turn your head to the right as if looking over your right shoulder…slowly and gently breathing in.  Return your head to a forward position as you exhale and focus on your gentle outbreath again.  Aliveness is present now.  Relax into the present moment and be!  This simple exercise allows you to be fully present knowing that Eternity is NOW.

Core transformation

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Recent connections with new friends in Santa Fe, New Mexico, bring a reminder to love your neighbor as yourself.  When you love yourself you accept and honor the divine spirit of your being. It is in that moment that your oneness with others becomes real.  Forgiveness and healing happen simultaneously and create a lightness of being and give you renewal and clarity of direction on your life path.

Core Transformation is an NLP process that gets you in touch with feelings created in your past that may once have been useful but that no longerserve you . You can learn from those beliefs that  preventyou from moving forward.  How?  Simply by having a unique conversation with them you can discover their positive intention for you!  In an hour or so you can overcome the obstacle and enlighten your life! Sounds pretty amazing doesn’t it?  It is! And YOU can make it happen!

How do you eat an elephant?

One bite at a time.

How is it that we allow ourselves to complicate even the simplest aspects of our lives?  What an amazing capacity for thought our brains have!  And sometimes that works, and sometimes it just complicates!  Part of me thinks this, part of me thinks that, and part of me…well, you have experienced this over and over again!

What I know is that each of our parts resides in a place within us and underneath all the complications, that part has a good intention for us.  Finding that core intention that is greater than all the others can happen and it can transform.  When we accept, listen, and embrace that part of us-even the one that hurts or is our shadow, we learn the intention and grow through the lesson.

That part within you that seems to be causing pain has a higher intention for you.  Find it.  Communicate with it and LISTEN to what it has to teach. It can change the entire picture!

Letting go

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

A relationship has ended, or a loved one has died, or you’ve lost your job…and you are ready to let go.  How do you make this happen?

As with many decisions we make, we are reminded to be willing, we open up rather than close down, we accept ourselves as we are rather than constantly working on the “self-betterment programs” we design, we forgive ourselves and the others who have “done unto us”, we believe that we are more than we think we are, and-yes-we let go rather than hold on. With NLP each of us has an opportunity to learn the power of affirmations and productive self talk.  The grief  release pattern allows us to remember the beauty and goodness of the past while letting go of the unresourseful grip of the part of us that clings on. This can happen whenever we are ready.  Find an NLP practitioner who will walk you through this.  It will change your life.
